There have been certain things happening in our country recently which have really scared me, though I don't know if they are the things which other people find the most scary about the situation at the moment. Obviously the terrorist threat - or rather the potential one, they don't know, or haven't released details about, whether they were actually going to definately do it - is very scary, but what scares me more is that fact that the people who have been arrested as being part of the threat, as 'potential terrorists' are young men, some younger than me, one even younger than katie, who have been educated in our education system, and have been born and brought up in this country. How can people who have been bought up in the same country, with the same education, at the same time, have such different ideas, how can they think that it's right to kill hundreds of people, while everyone else knows that it's wrong?
I suppose what I am really asking is how could they have become so brainwashed within their faith, to think that this is the right thing to do. For example, I have been taught, and told by a lot of people while I was at church, that people who were not Christian would go to hell, as they were not 'saved'. I however don't believe this, as it would mean that most of my best friends, and my mum, and other members of my family, would not go to heaven, they would end up in hell, and theres no way that can be right, in my eyes anyway. I've listened to what people have had to say, and I've made up my own mind about things - why can't other people do that?
It's scary that this country, or any country, can produce people who think its right to kill hundreds of people in the name of religion, or for the good of anyone. This has been the case throughout history, but I would have thought in this day and age, in our modern society, people would be open minded enough to realise that this is not what should happen, and that people should live peacefully together.
I don't like what the world is turning into, how it is changing, what people believe now. Obviously it's not everyone, but it's still scary. I wonder what the world will be like in 50 years? Hopefully I will still be around to see it, although I probably won't like it.
By a strange coincidence, the song I'm just listening to is "Enola Gay" by Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark. Enola Gay is the name of the plane which dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima at the end of the Second World War. Another event which caused huge unnecessary loss of life.
"Enola Gay, you should have stayed at home yesterday
Oho it can't describe the feeling and the way you lied
These games you play, they're gonna end it all in tears someday
Oho Enola Gay, it shouldn't ever have to end this way
It's 8:15, that's the time that it's always been
We got your message on the radio, condition's normal and you're coming home
Enola Gay, is mother proud of little boy today
Oho, this kiss you give, it's never ever gonna fade away
Enola Gay, it shouldn't ever have to end this way
Oho Enola Gay, it should've faded our dreams away
It's 8:15, oh that's the time that it's always been
We got your message on the radio, condition's normal and you're coming home
Enola Gay, is mother proud of little boy today
Oho, this you give, it's never ever gonna fade away"
