...but some people are just so clueless! gah!
someone on facebook has one of those silly status' which is basically "why do we give so much money to (e.g.) Pakistan when we should be helping ourselves first" - they just have no idea!! People just don't realise how much we have and how lucky we are. We're ill - so we go to hospital - we get treated, free at the point of delivery. In Pakistan, they don't even have hospitals in some areas at the moment. Just because things aren't perfect, people think that somehow we have nothing.
And then this silly story about a woman putting a cat in a wheely bin - it was actually on the BBC news! Must be a mega slow news day!! It is cruel, but not newsworthy. Its not like she repeatedly did it, or starved it - she put it into a bin, which it might have been able to get out of (depending on the amount of things in it) and which the homeowner would have been able to get it out of the next time they put something in the bin - which wouldn't have been more than a few days.
I know I should keep these kind of views to myself, because as someone who doesn't have a huge affection for animals (although some are ok, I wouldn't go out of my way for them) and who knows how lucky we are living in this country, I seem to be in the minority most of the time.
But oh well :)

Date: 2010-08-24 05:50 pm (UTC)Ah, self-righteous right-wing Facebook status updates! Great, aren't they? It must be strange, and a bit scary, to inhabit a fantasy world in which all the world's ills are caused by poor people.

Date: 2010-08-24 10:39 pm (UTC)I love animals but seriously I don't think someone putting a cat in a bin is news worthy, considering how much probably happened in the world today. I don't know what it's like there, but on most of our news programs we get about 5 minutes of real news and then the rest is just useless.
