Film 45 – Run Fat Boy Run
I think I might have already reviewed this as I have probably already watched this this year, but I’ll do it again! This is a great film! It stars Simon Pegg as man who five years ago left his wife-to-be at the altar, pregnant, and really has regretted it ever since. He has contact with his son, but basically his life is a bit rubbish. His wife-to-be, played by Thandie Newton, who is just lovely, gets a new American boyfriend, and Simon Pegg’s character feels a bit put out by this, as this man seems to be great and perfect in all ways. He finds out that this man is going to run a marathon being held in London (not the London Marathon, as that was apparently already licensed to use in another film!), and Simon Pegg is determined that he will also do the marathon, to the amusement of his friend, played brilliantly by Dylan Moran, who then bets his entire possessions on him finishing the marathon.
The film does get a little predictable from this point, but it is great and funny despite this. I can’t remember the boyfriend’s name, but him and Simon Pegg set off on this marathon. He has to pull out after thinking he has hurt himself (but really he just hits “the wall”!), but Simon keeps on going and eventually, with a sprained ankle, ends up finishing the marathon about 10 hours after everyone else! Despite its predictability, its just a nice, funny film to watch, with great characters. Highly recommended! 9 / 10 (not 10 / 10 only due to its predictability!)
