I mentioned in my last book entry that I had to read five books in a week to keep up with my target - well I almost achieved it! Although I did cheat a little by reading crime books, which take me about 2 days to read each! And the other book I read was a very stereotypical one..haha.

Book Thirty Five - Dracula by Bram Stoker

This is the classic, original and best novel about vampires (none of that Twilight around here!!). It begins with Jonathan Harker going to meet the mysterious Count Dracula, who is looking to buy a house in England. Count Dracula comes to England (via Whitby - which is where I read the book, hehe!), and bites a Lucy, who is a friend of Mina, Jonathan's wife. Her doctor, Dr Seward, is joined by Dr Van Helsing, and together with Mina, Jonathan, Arthur and another man who's name I can't remember! seek out Dracula and set out to destroy him, to stop him biting anyone else. Thats actually just a terrible description of a great book! It is very easy to read, although the first time I read it I was a bit put off by the "diary" style, but as you get into it it really draws you in. Recommended to everyone who enjoys a good, well written story, especially those who have only read Twilight and think that is all vampires are about...!! 9 / 10

Book Thirty Six - The Mephisto Club by Tess Gerritsen

This book tells the story of a serial killer, who when he kills his victims leaves strange ritualistic symbols on and around the bodies. The main character is Maura Isles, who I think has been in some of Tess Gerritsen's other books, and she is contacted by The Mephisto Club, who help her (or try to help her - at first she doesn't want their help) to find out what the symbols mean. Like I said earlier, I cheat a bit by reading these types of books as I usually get through them really quickly, but this one is especially good for the genre. I like crime books, and books which have things about signs and symbols in them, so this was great. It is a bit gory, but not overly so, or not so that it seems like thats the main point of the writing, it also has about the relationships between the characters as well. Recommended if you like crime books :) 9 / 10

Book Thirty Seven - Bones to Ashes by Kathy Reichs

This is another slightly cheating book as its another crime book, but it was nowhere near as good as Kathy Reich's other books, or as the Tess Gerristen book I read. It is about Tempe Brennan who is a forensic anthropologist, and one of the cases she has been asked to look at which could give clues to the disappearance of a childhood friend of hers. It also ties into a story about a serial killer who has been killing children. I like all the technical details in - for example about how they can tell where the bones are from and how the person was killed - but I really didn't like the writing style. It was very choppy, with not that many long paragraphs, so it was a bit annoying. Also there was a lot about Tempe's relationships with her sister and former lover which I found annoying, and a bit not relevant to the story. I have liked other Kathy Reich's books, but this one is the newest one (or one of the newest ones) , so I hope she hasn't changed her style to this from now on! Recommended if you like the forensic things - but if you haven't read anything by Kathy Reichs before, I recommend you start with something different! 6 / 10

These are all the books I've read in April - and I think I'm going to post a link to the reviews on the Bookish community now. Not sure whether they're going to shoot my reviews down in flames, but I'll see! And it might get more people reading and commenting on them, which would be good.

I'm currently reading Riders On The Storm, by John Densmore. Its about the Doors, and by the drummer of the Doors, so its really good so far (about half way in). I like to read books about bands by the bands themselves, otherwise things do probably get misreported.

Oh and I went to a gig! :)
Code 64 af Slimelight

I hadn't really heard much by Code 64 before I went to see them (although I have an album of theirs on my MP3 player, I haven't really listened to it for some reason!) but they were really great. I couldn't tell you the setlist because I don't know many of their songs, and they did play quite a few new ones, but it was good! They played "Leaving Earth" and "Without You" (sample lyric - Without You, Storms Break My Concrete :D ) which were really really good. The lead singer kept saying about how he was new and was a fan of the band before he joined, which I thought was good and made him out to be a nice, down to earth person instead of some famous band member. It was on the top floor of Slimelight, and there was a good crowd there, but still room to dance! 8 / 10 :)

Apart from that, Slimelight was excellent. Its been great the last few times I've been, I really want to go more often. The food is great as well - which seems a weird thing to say about a club, but its such a good idea to have food! Sophy had some really lovely chilli with rice. Such a shame that Katie can't come back from uni more and go though :( But when she comes back we will definately have to go! :)

Today I haven't really done anything as in going out, but its been a very productive day - I wrote my last essay for my current OU course, even though I can't submit it until June!! So now I'm going to go and look for another one to do. I think I will do another 10 point course, probably the Archaeology one as I've always been interested in that, and then the Heritage course, but after that I'm not sure whether to concentrate on psychology courses, or just do ones which I am interested in..I might try one of the level one courses which you have to do for the Psychology degree, and see what thats like. Is it sad to get exciting about degrees and studying though, because I am! :D

I think Slimes has improved so much. I used to love going but had a few years where I didn't go, then went back after last years VNV Nation gig. I love the new bit downstairs, I think it makes it much more pleasant when you're starting to get tired.

Yeah it's great with that bit, its nice to sit and people watch, hehe. My favourite bit is the goth floor, but I like having the variety of being able to go on the other floors as well, instead of it just being dancy all the time. And the toilets are much improved now, haha! :D
