I was off work yesterday, so watched a few films:
Mrs Henderson Presents
This is a lovely film, about Mrs Henderson (played by Judi Dench) who buys a theatre just before the Second World War and how they keep it going through the war and for the soldiers. Its just a nice little film, with some nice songs and dances in it, and Will Young, who is surprisingly good :) 8/10
The Village
I've been being told by Katie to watch this film for ages! So I decided to finally do it. I did know the story, and what the twist was, before I watched it, but I don't think that really made a difference, there was still the drama of how they got to the point of knowing the twist. Although I feel a bit silly as I didnt realise until about halfway through that the girl was blind...haha :) Adrian Brody's character was excellent though, he is such a good actor! Although there was one thing he did which I didn't understand why he did it!! Its basically about this group of people who live in the middle of a forest and have to keep themselves protected from these red monsters on the outside. And then one of them has to go outside the forest to get some medicine...and then theres the twist. It was an ok film, but not as scary as I thought it would be. Its such a shame that the Sixth Sense was so amazing, because now everything else he has made has in no way lived up to how good that was. i've also seen the Lady in the Water and that was just silly! I think I'll only give it 5/10.
The Black Dahlia
I read the book of this, and quite enjoyed it, but I couldn't really get into the film, so only watched half of it. (Hence the 9 1/2 film!) Its about a policeman getting obsessed with the murder of an up and coming actress in Hollywood, and how he deals with it, and how the murder investigation progresses. I think I just wasn't in the mood for that kind of film, so I'll try it again sometime soon I think.
I'm off work again today, so I might watch some more films - I got the two films about Che Guevara (is that how you spell his name?) and they're supposed to be excellent, so I might watch them. Watching the tennis at the moment though - Murry vs Nadal, at the Australian Open. Murray currently has the upper hand, 6-3 in the first set, and they're currently 4-4 in the second. I must say I do prefer Wimbledon though - their shoes squeaking on the court are really annoying, and everyone is wearing such garish colours! I think Nadal is actually wearing a bright orange shirt and a bright pink sweatband - euww! Oh no! Now its 5-4 to Nadal! But it's Murray to serve next, so hopefully he'll win that one :)
One thing I meant to comment on last week was the case of the two young boys in Doncaster who beat up / tortured / left to die two other young boys. It is good that they have been sentanced, but - similar to the Jamie Bulger case, and the boys who murdered him - those boys will get a better life in "prison" than they ever would outside. And they will probably be released before they go into an adult prison, as it would be too "harsh" for them or something. The court stated that the younger boy has psychopathic tendancies, so society has to be properly protected from him for his whole life, in case he does something worse. If they are capable of this now, what will they be like in 5, 10, 15 years time. I wonder if their parents will be somehow punished as well, as it was in part their fault, and I believe their father said that they had been with him all the time, instead of committing the crime. It just makes me angry that they will be let out of prison in a few years, and will possibly be given totally new lives (as in the Jamie Bulger case), while the boys they attacked will have to live with what happened to them for the rest of their lives. I imagine that they are scared to go outside, I know I would be.
Ooh the tennis is getting quite exciting now - 5-5 in the second set, 15-30 to Murray! ooh!!
