I'm having a really frustrating day at work so I thought I'd do some more writing on here!

I've just found some notes I wrote while I was Infest and I totally forgot to include them in my review - including the very exciting fact that I literally bumped into the singer from Rotersand :D :D Can't believe I forgot that, haha. Also, the sexist sign in the car park had gone! (Women only on this side!) Which is good, as I have no idea why it was there in the first place.

The main point of this post is a review of a gig I went to aaaages ago - shows how far behind I am in reviewing all my books and films!

Peter Murphy - Dingwalls, 5th August 2010

This was a bit of a weird evening. I'd only decided to go to the gig a few days before, the venue had been moved from the Electric Ballroom to Dingwalls, and it was really really hot, so it was a bit uncomfortable and I wasn't fully in the mood for a gig. Luckily I'd been to Dingwalls before so I knew how to find it on my own - its quite hidden and me and Katie walked around for a bit before we found it the first time we went. Its quite a nice venue but the three times I've been there it's always been totally packed and a bit uncomfortable - especially getting to the toilets, which are right next to the stage. But anyway, back to this gig. First of all, if you wanted a "proper" goth gig you would have been disappointed. Despite his hugely influential goth past with Bauhaus and the fact that he doesn't shy away from that fact (unlike other goth icons we could mention!), the music Peter Murphy plays is less goth now, although still atmospheric it's less dark than his previous music. He played quite a few Bauhaus songs this time, which was really good, done in the same kind of style as his new stuff which has lots of Eastern influences - as I think he now lives in Istanbul (or did for a few years anyway). He was wearing the same coat that he was wearing the previous time I saw him though, which was funny - although the feathers on it had got a bit more tatty since last time! There were lots of problems with the lights and sound and you could tell that Peter was getting a bit annoyed with that - to the point where when they started to play Ziggy Stardust, they'd only played 2 lines and he said the guitarist was out of tune and didn't play any more! I personally thought it sounded ok, and the guitarist did look really confused, so that was a bit of a weird moment. When he did Bela Lugosi's Dead it went into another Bowie song, but I now can't remember which one - and didn't know which one it was at the gig either, even though it was really familiar. There was an amazing violinist on Cuts You Up and Dark Entries, they were really good. Cuts You Up is probably one of my favourite Peter Murphy solo songs, I love his voice on it. The crowd was a bit weird, maybe it was because I was standing at the back but they didn't really seem too "into" the gig, and weren't really dancing or singing along apart from a couple of people. I was thinking it would be nice to have a seated "An Evening with Peter Murphy", as his music would suit that, and he does chat quite a bit between the songs. Surprisingly I quite like that, although a lot of the time I don't like it when artists chat a lot during their gigs. Everytime he speaks though I think he sounds like someone else and I can't remember who - hopefully I'll remember it now, its Bill Nighy! They must come from the same place I think. Overall it was a good gig, despite at the weird bits and it being really really hot. I think in future I'll go to less gigs in the summer!! I would recommend going to see Peter Murphy, as he does have an excellent voice, but its not as goth as some people expect it to be!

Might have to do another post now - just found a note of some fascinating facts that I learnt about London when I went on a bus tour around the city, but this entry is a bit long to put them in here too! :)
