More Short Film Reviews!
Film 68 (and 72!) – Love Actually - This film is lovely! Very soppy in places, but its got a lovely range of characters and some really good people in it. A must-have Christmas film. 9 / 10
Film 69 – Burke and Hare - After buying the more expensive cinema ticket I’ve ever bought for this (£11!!) I wasn’t disappointed, but it could have been better. A nice historical comedy, with some great people in, but it could have, and should have, been funnier. I still love Simon Pegg though! : )
Film 70 – Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - A brilliant children’s film, despite having some scary moments, and the King and Queen who are just horrible! I love the song when they pretend to be dolls on music boxes. 8 / 10
Film 71 – The Tourist - I actually loved this! The reviews I’d read beforehand were really negative, but it was a great film, with some beautiful people in it. And the last line was just brilliant! (but I can’t say it as it would ruin the story!). A spy / gangster thriller, involving Venice, Angelina Jolie as some kind of agent, and Johnny Depp as her unwitting victim…or is he…?? :D 9 / 10
Film 72 – Love Actually - see above!
Film 73 – The Other Boleyn Girl - This film deserved to be good, but its really disappointing. The leads (Scarlett Johannson and Natalie Portman) were really miscast, although they’re great in other films they weren’t good in this. Also there is just something about it which I don’t like, which is a shame as I usually love historical films, and I loved the book. 5 / 10
Film 74 – Shrek The Third - I hadn’t seen this before, and had got a bit fed up with Shrek, but I actually quite enjoyed this. Maybe it was just because it was on Christmas Day so we were having a good day anyway! 7.5 / 10
Film 75 – Enchanted - This film is just nice, Amy Adams is just right for the role of the Princess, and I like the way Disney is kind of taking the mickey out of itself and its films! Has some great characters and is a nice way to spend a couple of hours! 8 / 10
Film 76 – Toy Story 3 - This film is just perfect! A perfect end to the trilogy, and to the end of our childhoods! Its one of those films which although it does appeal to adults, its not because its “adult” themed (e.g. lots of innuendo, like Shrek), but because it just so clearly shows how children grow up, and what happens to their toys when they don’t want them! As in the other two films, the characters are great, the story is wonderful, really emotional. Highly recommended! 10 / 10
Well that ends this series of film reviews on a high note! I seem to have rated most of them quite highly, but I think its because unlike books I tend to watch more films which I know I’ll like, rather than how I read books, which is just because they sound interesting. I will probably watch a couple more on Friday night (woo for a quiet night in on New Year when its expensive and crowded, and yay for going out on Saturday when theres room to dance and its cheaper!). I am really really really looking forward to seeing the Kings Speech, which I think comes out on 7th January, but apart from that I’m not sure what other films are out next year. I will have to have a look and check if there are any good ones!
